Grocery Circular Effectiveness
The Challenge
A 16-store grocery chain in Houston, Texas was slowly losing market share to large regional and national competitors. They had been running the circular format for several years, with ever-increasing print and distributions costs. The cost increases were taking their toll on their bottom line.
The Solution
Using grocery circular best practices, Southeast Media began with a total re-design of the existing circular. Weekly specials were given clear emphasis on the front page. A lighter paper combined with a short cutoff press, provided a significant savings in both print and distribution cost, saving the client over $250,000 in advertising costs.
The Result
Not only were the savings significant, but both customer count and average purchase both increase over the following weeks. Customers even commented on how they liked the new look and more user-friendly circular design.
Retail Point of Sale Materials
The Challenge
One of the top 5 grocery chains in the country was frustrated in the way the best offers in their circular didn’t seem to draw much attention in the store. They brought in Southeast Media to devise a point of sale campaign that was inexpensive and simple to execute at the store level.
The Solution
Using common 22”x 28” sign holders, Southeast Media identified key areas of the store where signs could be placed without disrupting the “clean aisle” approach in the store. Simple, inexpensive paper signs with bold full color artwork were created for five to seven of the feature items, and send to each store location with instructions for display. The signs were placed directly adjacent to the featured items.
The Result
Not only did the featured products fly off the shelves at double-digit rates, the program was so successful that it was replicated in other stores around the country.
Retail Website
The Challenge
A Louisiana grocery store chain had developed a retail website years ago. While the site provided some basic information about the retail grocery stores, it didn't communicate actively to its customers. In addition, the website had no web analytic capabilities. No one knew how many customers were visiting, or the visitor's engagement.
The Solution
With customer input, Southeast Media began re-building the website from the bottom up. In addition to such useful items as store locations, meal planning suggestions and a convenient shopping list, Southeast Media also designed the site to gather customer information, provide a feedback system and gather information on user responsiveness.
The Result
From the first week to the end of the first sixty days, visits increased by 12%, length of visit increased by 45 seconds and the bounce rate was cut in half. The client has continued to invest in the website using email marketing to target their customers in new ways.
